2027 Breckpoint to SBMA Renewal Transition FAQ

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING THE RENEWAL PROCESS?

SBMA will provide your renewal package to your broker approximately 90 days prior to your renewal date. Renewal plan offerings will be similar to your current Breckpoint plans, and medical plan rates will not increase for the 2027 plan year.

Approximately 45 to 60 days before renewal, you will receive a DocuSign renewal packet from the SBMA Renewal Team, with your broker copied on the communication.

WHAT DOCUMENTS ARE REQUIRED IN THE RENEWAL PACKET?

Your DocuSign packet may include:

  • New Case Application
  • Captive paperwork (if applicable)
  • ACH Form and Voided Check for initial billing and claims funding
  • Administrative Services Agreement
  • Census template requirements

Please note:

  • ACH is required for your initial payment.
  • ACH is required for ASO groups for claims funding.
  • Receive a $100 credit on your first SBMA invoice when you enroll in recurring ACH payments.
  • A completed renewal DocuSign packet is required for renewal processing. Accounts cannot be renewed without the completed documentation.

HOW WILL BILLING CHANGE WHEN TRANSITIONING TO SBMA?

To align with SBMA processes, Breckpoint will adjust billing schedules beginning in October.

Billing Timeline

  • Current billing with Breckpoint will align with SBMA’s schedule starting in October to make your transition easier at renewal.
  • Once you renew with SBMA, your first invoice for the new plan period will be issued 7-10 business days after your Open Enrollment period. (Will this mean MP charges for 10 if a group is delayed in providing OE census?)
  • Thereafter, SBMA invoices will be generated by the 25th of each month for the following month’s premium.

SBMA Billing Policy

SBMA does not issue draft invoices prior to final posting. Any adjustments will appear on the following month’s invoice.

WHAT IS CHANGING REGARDING SURPLUS CLAIMS FUNDING?

Existing Breckpoint Plans

Unused surplus funding for eligible Breckpoint Medical and Dental plans will continue to be returned for 2026 and prior plan years, when applicable. Surplus returns are typically distributed approximately six months after the end of the plan period.

SBMA Medical and Dental Plans Beginning in 2027

For SBMA Medical and Dental plans effective in 2027, surplus claims funding will no longer be returned.

Supplemental Plans

Employee Choice Supplemental products (Accident, Critical Illness, and Hospital Indemnity) are not changing and will continue to return surplus funding in 2027.
